Tlaxcala
Mexico is situated in the northern region of the American continent linking the Gulf of Mexico on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. It is encircled by the United States on the north and by Guatemala and Belize on the south and is divided into six tourist regions. These regions are Northern Mexico, Central Mexico, Southern Mexico, The Yucatan Peninsula, The Pacific Coast and The Baja California Peninsula.
Tlaxcala is the stunning city and is located in Mexico’s central eastern region, 120 kilometers east of Mexico City. The climate is mild with an average temperature of 18º centigrade. In this city, built on top of ruins of ancient native towns, you will see some notable religious and civic buildings, including the Palacio Municipal that is Municipal Palace, where inside you will find magnificent paintings that narrate Tlaxcala’s history from the pre-Hispanic era to present day, as well as the work of Desiderio Hernandez Xochitiotzin.
For those who like festivities and traditions, Tlaxcala offers an amusing running of the bulls, which has become well-known nationwide. And then there’s the beautiful cuisine, featuring dishes based on pre-Hispanic recipes, such as the sopa detortilla that is tortilla soup and mixiotes chicken wrapped in maguey leaves. During your visit, you can also try some superior regional wine and for dessert you can indulge in panques de maiz that is cornmeal pancakes or conventional amaranth sweets called alegrias.
In Tlaxcala’s environs, you will find interesting archaeological zones like Cacaxtla, one of the most important native capitals in Mesoamerica during the Epiclassic era. Standing out at these ruins are the mysterious scenes that were painted on the walls. You can also take an enjoyable stroll through the Parque Nacional La Malinche that is Malinche National Park, a perfect spot to go camping or enjoy nature. Also nearby is the town of Huamantla, famous for its bull runs that remind one of Spain’s Pamplona.
Tlaxcala is a destination that offers outstanding tourist services and it has maintained the feel of a traditional Mexican city.
