Veracruz
Mexico is situated in the northern region of the American continent linking the Gulf of Mexico on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. It is encircled by the United States on the north and by Guatemala and Belize on the south and is divided into six tourist regions. These regions are Northern Mexico, Central Mexico, Southern Mexico, The Yucatan Peninsula, The Pacific Coast and The Baja California Peninsula.
Veracruz is the nation’s most significant port and is located in Mexico’s Gulf coast region, 140 kilometers southeast of state capital Xalapa on Highway 140 and 390 kilometers from Mexico City on Highway 150. The climate is tropical and the average temperature is 25º centigrade. In Veracruz’s surrounding areas, you can visit the Cempoala archaeological zone and the town of La Antigua, where you can see the first Christian construction in Latin America and the first house of conquistador Hernan Cortes, Pico de Orizaba National Park and the charming town of Tlacotalpan.
This destination is well-known for the music, dancing and festive atmosphere at its Carnival, the state’s most significant event of the year. There you will find beaches with calm waters that are perfect for doing all kinds of aquatic sports, particularly scuba diving along the coral reefs at the Parque Nacional Sistema Arrecifal Veracruzano, which is inhabited by a broad range of fish, coral and other marine species. You can also visit the unbelievable Acaurio, which is Latin America’s biggest saltwater aquarium. Along the boardwalk, you will find a broad range of shops selling all kinds of souvenirs.
