Xalapa
Mexico is situated in the northern region of the American continent linking the Gulf of Mexico on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. It is encircled by the United States on the north and by Guatemala and Belize on the south and is divided into six tourist regions. These regions are Northern Mexico, Central Mexico, Southern Mexico, The Yucatan Peninsula, The Pacific Coast and The Baja California Peninsula.
Xalapa is one of the popular tourist destinations of Mexico and the state capital of Veracruz. Located almost 104 kilometers to the west of the Veracruz port, in a mountain zone, Xalapa experiences temperate and humid climate and an average year-round temperature of 18 degree Celsius.
Xalapa is also famous for its eclectic architectural offering including buildings that are a blend of neoclassic, Moorish and neogothic styles. There are also edifices as the Palacio de Gobierno, the Palacio Municipal and the Cathedral. As you walk along the cobblestone streets, one can also come across interesting attractions like the Xalapa Anthropology Museum, one of the nation’s most important museums. There you can see an important collection of archaeological pieces from the Olmec, Totonac and Huastec cultures, groups that inhabited the region during the pre-Hispanic era.
Xalapa also has the famous Clavijero Botanical Garden where one can observe more than 700 regional plant species in its heavenly gardens. If you would like to do some camping and mountain climbing, the Cofre de Perote National Park has the second highest mountain in the state of Veracruz and the eighth largest in Mexico, with an altitude of 4,282 meters above sea level. The most notable structure there is the Pyramid of the Niches.
