Aquarium of Veracruz: Marine Life In Your Hands
The marvelous town of Veracuz delights us all with its architectonic and colonial attractions. Nevertheless, Veracruz is much more than that. Widely known for the beauty of its beaches and the richness diversity of animal life on its sea, Veracruz enjoys the honor of having one of the most important and rich aquariums in Latin America. Located in Playón de Hornos, the aquarium has an area of 3,493 m2 and counts with the particularity that 80 % of its area of exhibition is made up of natural environments.
In November 1989, a group of businessmen along with the government of the state of Veracruz decided to build an aquarium to preserve and also investigate marine animals and plants. It was until November 13th, 1992 when the aquarium was inaugurated. The person in charge of promoting, coordinating and supervising the project was Mr. Baltazar Pazos de la Torre. The main objectives of the Veracruz aquarium are to promote tourism, education, aquatic research and ecological knowledge. All this, with the option of offering a nice place for families to enjoy time together has turned the aquarium into one of the nicest attractions in Veracruz.
